What Families Often Ask About Behavioral Assessment for Children inCharlotte, NC

Is a behavioral assessment the same as an autism evaluation?

No. A behavioral assessment does not diagnose autism. A BCBA uses it to determine your child’s ABA treatment goals, recommended weekly hours, and appropriate treatment setting.

An autism diagnosis is generally needed to move forward with the ABA assessment process. If your child still needs a diagnosis, we can refer your family to a diagnostic provider and keep your file open while you complete that process.

Yes. In North Carolina, an autism evaluation recommending ABA does not replace the separate referral or prescription required for treatment. We review your documentation during intake so missing requirements can be identified before they delay the process.

Coverage depends on your insurance plan and its authorization requirements. We verify your benefits and request prior authorization for the assessment when required, including for North Carolina Medicaid plans.

Yes, children with limited communication or challenging behaviors can still be considered for ABA assessment. The BCBA evaluates your child’s individual needs and determines which concerns are appropriate for ABA and what treatment setting can support them.
