How Does The RBT Certification Process Work?

An RBT certification is a certification in Applied Behavior Analysis, where the RBT functions under a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and may work 1:1 with children in various settings, whether at home, school, or within a group.

Certification is required to be able to work directly with children and provide services under the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). The applicant must be at least 18 years of age to become certified, and should have a high school diploma or equivalent.

The candidate must pass a background check and obtain 40 supervised hours of training. Once that's completed then they may register for the competency exam. Once the RBT exam is passed at a qualifying testing center, the candidate becomes certified as a registered behavior technician, or RBT.
